Blake Carrick Makes First Career Sprint Car Start

- Making his first ever start in a midget last month, the year of firsts continued over the weekend for Blake Carrick as the youngster from Lincoln, CA made his first ever starts aboard a winged 360 sprint car at Ocean Speedway and Petaluma Speedway.

“It was one of those weekends where I learned a lot and had some fun,” Blake Carrick said. “I have to thank my parents for letting me do this, and Clark Riolo and Matt Britt for the help and advice.”

Making his debut at Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Blake Carrick would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B entry in 11th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Carrick would go to school a little as he would have his hands full with some veteran racers. Slipping back to a sixth place finish Carrick would find himself the semi.

Taking advantage of the extra laps, Carrick would finish in the second position and keep his night going as he moved into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 14thstarting position.

Falling back to 18th on the race’s first lap, Carrick would avoid a big pile up in front of him as he picked up two positions that he had lost. When the race resumed, the Lincoln, CA driver would work his way up to 12th on the sixth lap as he ran in a pack of cars jockeying for position.

Running 14th late in the race, Carrick would get over the edge of the speedway and would opt to take his car back to the trailer and get ready to make his second start one night later.

Traveling to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night, Carrick would continue to adapt and learn on the fly as he would battle with some of California’s best on this night.

Timing in seventh quickest in his qualifying group, Carrick would line up seventh in heat race action.

Dropping to a ninth place finish, the Rookie would move into the semi where his night would end with a 13th place finish.

“It was good to get in the sprint car and learn some more after a couple midget races,” Blake Carrick added. “I am looking forward to doing it again.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction for their continued support
