Making the trip to Southern Illinois Raceway over the weekend to take part in the Highbanks Hustle, a highly touted Micro race, Blake Carrick would finish 18th in the opening night feature event.
“It was a tough field of cars, and it was a long weekend of racing,” Blake Carrick said. “Thanks to everyone who made this all possible.”
Piloting the Factor1 Racing No. 37 machine, the Lincoln, CA driver would find himself in the fourth row of his heat race with points the name of the game. On a racy SIR surface, Carrick would work his way up to finish third which put him in a great position in his qualifier.
Lining up in the second row of his qualifier, Carrick would have his eyes one of the three transfer positions that were up for grabs. On the outside looking in initially, the young Californian would get the job done as his third place finish moved him into the preliminary night feature event.
Gridding the field from 23rd, Carrick would take on an extremely talented field of drivers as he was able to hold his own and pick up a handful of spots as he closed his night with an 18th place finish.
Back in action for Saturday’s finale, Carrick would again find himself in the fourth row of his heat race needing another good run just as he had on Friday. On a track that was a bit more technical and more difficult to make up ground on, Carrick would finish seven and find himself in the sixth row of his qualifier.
From the 12th starting position, Carrick would again have his sights set on the top-three as he looked to race his way into the Highbanks Hustle feature event. Carrick got his elbows up and was hard on the throttle as he worked his way forward.
Getting up to the sixth spot, Carrick would stall out in the closing laps and be unable to pick up any more positions as his Highbanks Hustle ended in the qualifier.
“It’s been fun back in the Midwest racing the last couple of weeks,” Carrick said. “I am excited to get back to California and run Placerville Speedway in the sprint car on Saturday night.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction for their continued support
