Despite being collected in an opening lap wreck, Blake Carrick would rebound well as he fought forward and finished ninth at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
“We had nowhere to go and got upside down on the opening lap wreck but fortunately my guys were able to get me back out and we came back to finish ninth,” Blake Carrick said.
Timing his CVC backed No. 38 entry in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials, Carrick would take advantage of the prime starting position in his heat race and would race his way to the win and make himself eligible for the nightly redraw.
Pulling the five pill, Carrick would put the Cemex/Interstate Oil/Conti, Harris, and Sloan entry in the third row to start the 25-lap feature event. When the field came through turns three and four to take the green flag, contact between cars up front would create a huge wreck and Carrick would get collected and actually get his machine upside down.
Making repairs and rejoining the field, Carrick would find himself back in 10th with the severity of the wreck. Running well inside the Top-10, Carrick would move into ninth with just five laps to go in the feature event.
Running solidly in the Top-10 for the final five circuits, Carrick would cap his night off with his fifth career Top-10 finish at the helm of a winged 360.
“It was a bummer to get caught up in that wreck, but I was fortunate to be able to restart the race and still put together a good run,” Carrick said. “Thanks to everyone who made it possible.”
