Blake Carrick 5th at Marysville Raceway’s ‘Tribute To Gold Cup’

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though Marysville Raceway’s point season wrapped up a week ago, the track opted to host another Wednesday show to pay tribute to the postponed Gold Cup Race of Champions, and Carrick would perform well at the event as he netted a fifth-place finish.

“We had another solid night at Marysville Raceway,” Blake Carrick said. “We really have ran well at the track all year. I got off to a bit of a slow start during the ‘A’, but we were able to pick up a few positions on the heavy surface and grab a Top-5.”

30 cars packed into the Marysville Raceway pit area for the ‘Tribute to Gold Cup’, and Carrick set his night up well by timing the Conti, Harris, and Sloan/Emerald/Timberworks Construction backed mount in sixth fastest in time trials.

From the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would record a third-place finish, and by way of his qualifying efforts he would also garner a spot in the all-important redraw.

Pulling the six pill, the Lincoln, CA driver would grid the field from the outside of the third row on a surface that still had a ton of moisture left in it for the 25-lap feature event.

When the race came to life, Carrick would have a hard time making up ground initially as he actually fell back to the eighth spot during an early green flag run.

Following an early restart, Carrick would settle in and run a very patient race as passing was difficult on this night. Able to work his way back forward, Carrick would find himself back in the Top-5 late in the race.

Chasing after older brother, Tanner, and Shane Golobic, Carrick would pick up another strong result at the northern California facility as he finished in the fifth position.

“We had a good car, it was just really hard to pass on Wednesday night,” Carrick said. “Really looking forward to getting back to Ocean Speedway and Placerville Speedway this weekend, two tracks that we have also been able to win at this year.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
