PETERSEN MEDIA: Running the family No. 83T on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Blake Carrick would put together a nice night as he picked up a fifth-place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
“It was good a have a good night and get back in the Top-Five as we get ready for Trophy Cup,” Blake Carrick said. “It was my first 360ci race in a couple of weeks, so it was good to run some good laps and build a little confidence up.”
Timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Lincoln, CA driver would line up in the second row of his heat race.
With passing at a premium early in the night on the locked down surface, Carrick would finish fifth, as he moved into the qualifier where he would take the green flag from the outside of the third row.
Able to pick up a spot in the qualifier and improve his feature event starting position in doing so, Carrick’s 5th place finish lined him up ninth in the 35-lap finale. The track would remain extremely hooked up for the feature event, and Carrick would have his work cut out for himself coming out of the fifth row on this night.
A red flag on the race’s second lap would be the lone stoppage of the night and in turn would create a 33-lap non-stop run to the finish. Working his way forward, Carrick would climb into the sixth position as he began to pressure Sean Becker who ran ahead of him in fifth.
Keeping the status quo, Carrick would continue to look for a way into the top five, and his mark would shift from Becker to Joel Myers Jr as Becker moved to fourth as the leaders moved through traffic.
With Myers continuing to work the top of the track, Carrick would stay committed to the bottom and would move into fifth in the race’s closing laps.
Once in the top-five, Carrick would settle in as he capped his night off with his 29th Top-10 finish of the season.
“Last minute change in our schedule worked out, and I am happy we put together a good run on a tricky track,” Carrick noted.
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
