Blake Carrick Charges to Fifth at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: After being forced to pull in early on Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Saturday night saw Blake Carrick bounce back to pick up a fifth-place finish at Placerville Speedway, as the Lincoln, CA driver now looks at a very busy holiday weekend of racing.

“Friday night we were running 12th when I had to pull in, but on Saturday night we got rolling pretty good in the feature and came from 10th to finish fifth,” Carrick said. “We have a busy weekend ahead, and hopefully we can pick up three more good finishes.”

Kicking the weekend off at Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Carrick would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38b entry in eighth fastest among the 29 cars checked into the pit area.

Racing to a third-place finish in his heat race, Carrick would transfer into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 11th starting position.

When the race came to life, Carrick would battle for a spot inside the Top-10, but stoppages would keep the race from getting into a flow. Under a red flag on the 15th lap, issues for Carrick would arise and he would be forced to take his machine back to the pits and end his night early.

Returning to action on Friday night, Carrick would check in at Placerville Speedway where he would get off to another fast start as he timed in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, Carrick would punch his ticket into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 10th starting spot. On a very slick surface with a cushion built up thick on both ends of the track, Carrick would begin to move forward at the drop of the green flag.

Jumping into eighth by the eighth lap, Carrick would use a lap 10 restart to move into sixth. Hooking up in a hotly contested battle, Carrick would spend the middle portions of the race bouncing between sixth and seventh.

When the race’s final caution flew on the 23rd lap, the restart would see Carrick make a couple of nice moves to take over sixth on the 24th lap, before moving into fifth as he came to the checkered flag.

“I felt pretty good on Saturday night in the feature, I just need to do a better job to get myself in the redraw and not start back in 10th,” Carrick said. “Thanks to the guys for giving our team two really fast cars.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

ON TAP: Blake Carrick will head to Marysville Raceway on Friday night, Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night, and Placerville Speedway on Sunday.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-32, Wins-2, Top 5’s-9, Top 10’s-19
