PETERSEN MEDIA: With the 2020 Winged Sprint Car season coming to a close at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Blake Carrick surely is chomping at the bit for the 2021 season to start as he ended the year with his third straight podium at the track.
“We had a good car all night long,” Blake Carrick said. “Shane (Golobic) was really good, and we had a good run going in second until the last few laps. The bottom went away, and Colby Copeland had been working the top and was able to get us late.”
With 58 cars checked the Sprint Car Challenge Tour format was utilized, and Carrick would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B entry in second fastest in his time trial flight.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Carrick’s second place run would be good enough to get him into the redraw, where the one pill put him on the pole of the 30-lap feature event alongside Shane Golobic.
When the race went green on the slick, wide surface, Carrick would occupy the second position in the early stages of the race that were marred by a couple of red flag stoppages.
After two early reds, the race settled into a nice 18-lap green flag run that saw Carrick work the bottom of the speedway and occupy the second position as he chased after Golobic who set a torrid pace.
A late stoppage would bunch the field back up, and as Carrick would continue to use the bottom groove. In the waning laps, the grip that was once dominant down low would wear out and Carrick would see Colby Copeland run the high side to get around him and take the second spot.
Able to keep a spot on the podium, Carrick capped the 2020 season at Placerville with a third-place finish, his third consecutive podium at the facility.
“Thanks to Clark and the guys for giving me a good car,” Carrick said. “I hate to go backwards after starting on the pole, but still good to finish the year at Placerville Speedway on the podium.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
