PETERSEN MEDIA: Blake Carrick put together a very strong weekend in Northern California as the youngster finished fourth on Friday night in Chico, CA before working his way forward to a ninth place finish on Saturday in Placerville, CA.
“It was a really good weekend for us,” Blake Carrick said. “We ran in the Top-Five on Friday night, and Saturday we had a pretty good car in the feature that allowed us to come from the back and finish ninth.”
Carrick would get his weekend kicked off at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night as he timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would hang on to finish second which was good enough to put him in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.
Racing against a loaded field of cars at Silver Dollar Speedway, Carrick would hold his own well despite falling back within the Top-10 on a few of occasions. Staying composed in the seat, Carrick would get into a rhythm as he worked his way back up to a fourth place finish.
Saturday night, Carrick and the Carrick Racing team made the trip to Placerville Speedway where it was Fan Appreciation night.
With 20 cars checked in, Carrick opened his night up by timing his machine in 11th quickest in time trials.
From the front row of his heat race, Carrick would slip up a little bit and it would relegate him to a third place finish. Missing out on the redraw, Carrick would grid the field from the 12th starting position.
With the track essentially pretty fast, with a few slick spots, Carrick would search around in the early laps, and fall back to 14th in doing so. Not fazed by the early stanza of the race, Carrick would find a line that was to his liking and began working his way forward.
Getting into the Top-10, late, Carrick would move into 9th where he would take the checkered flag.
“After a tough week last week, great to get a top-five on Friday at Chico, and a Top-10 on Saturday night,” Carrick added. “Thanks to all of my guys for their hard work.”
