PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Blake Carrick had a really strong outing during the 14th Annual Mark Forni Classic as he picked up a fifth place finish in the 25-lap feature event.
“It was a pretty good night for us,” Blake Carrick said. “We had really good speed, I felt like I ran a pretty good race once I calmed down and we ended up with a Top-5.”
With 23-cars in the pit area on Saturday night, Carrick would get off to a great start on this night as he would ultimately time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B machine in sixth fastest in time trials after sitting atop the speed chart at one point.
Scheduled to start in the second row of his heat race, Carrick would have some good fortune on his side as he would get moved up to the front row. On a fast racing surface early in the night, Carrick would nail the start and pull out to the early lead. Leading from start to finish, Carrick would pick up the win and move into the nightly redraw.
Finding himself with the two-pill, the Lincoln, CA driver would take the green flag for the 25-lap feature event alongside veteran ace, Tim Kaeding.
Slipping back to second as Kaeding jumped out front, Carrick would battle the likes of Kalib Henry and Cody Lamar for position inside the Top-five. As the track continue to slick off and slow down, Carrick would search around to find grip but cost himself a couple of positions doing so as he would drop out of the Top-Five and fall back as far as seventh in the waning stages of the race.
Continuing to grind and battle hard, Carrick would take advantage of a couple late restarts that saw him get back into the Top-Five as he closed Saturday night out with a fifth place finish.
“It feels good to get back up inside the Top-Five and have a good night at Placerville Speedway,” Carrick added. “Thanks to my crew, my family, and the great sponsors that support us.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Arai for their continued support
ON TAP: Blake Carrick will get right back to it this weekend as he will be at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA on Friday night and Merced Speedway on Saturday night.
