Blake Carrick Rides Runner Up Momentum Back to Watsonville, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Flirting with his first win of the season on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, Blake Carrick would come up just short as he finished second with the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo at Ocean Speedway.

“We were really fast all night long, and we had the car that was capable of winning the race,” Blake Carrick said. “Unfortunately, the driver made mistake in traffic, and it cost us the lead late.”

Earning quick time honors on Friday night aboard the CVC/Cemex/Harris and Sloan backed No. 38B, Carrick would be slated to start in the second row of his heat race.

With the front row getting penalized for a false start, Carrick would improve his starting position before the race even came to life. Able to get the jump on the slick Placerville Speedway surface, Carrick would power to the win which gave him a berth in the Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo Dash.

Starting fifth in the six-lap shootout, Carrick would go on to finish fifth and find himself in the third row of the 30-lap feature event.

Settling into fifth as the race came to life, Carrick would jump into fourth as the lead pack quickly reached the back of the pack.

Chasing after older brother Tanner Carrick, and Chase Johnson for position on the podium, the yellow would fly for the elder Carrick on the eighth lap and put the field in double file formation.

Jumping into second, Carrick would continue to ride in the bridesmaid position the race’s halfway point as he began to challenge for the race lead. On the 17th lap, Carrick took over command of the race and began to work his way through traffic as rubber also began to lay down on the speedway.

Continuing to lead on the 25th lap, Carrick would feel pressure from Johnson as they maneuvered threw traffic. Getting held up by a slower car, Carrick would see Johnson get by and drop him back to second.

With passing opportunities limited in the final four laps of the race, Carrick would cap his night off with a second-place finish.

“Thanks to the guys for giving me a really good car on Friday night,” Carrick said. “I wish we could have finished it off in victory lane, but it has me feeling really good heading back to Ocean on Friday night with how good Tanner and I have been there the last few weeks.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Eddie’s Lincoln Automotive, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
