PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in Speedweek Northwest with Van Dyke Motorsports, Blake Carrick and the No. 5h team continued to race together as they picked up a sixth-place finish on Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
“It has been a lot of fun running with the Van Dyke Motorsports team, and I really want to thank Evan and Harley for the opportunity to run with their team,” Blake Carrick said. “I wasn’t able to get out of my heat on Saturday night, but we made some changes and got through the ‘B’, and had a great run in the feature event.”
Timing the Sacramento Battery Co. backed No. 5h in sixth fastest in time trials against the 27 car field, Carrick lined up in the second row of his heat race. A tricky track provided for a tough heat race for the Lincoln, CA runner as he finished fifth and was on the outside of a feature event transfer position and forced into the semi.
Lining up on the pole of the ‘B’, Carrick had his elbows up on the ¼ mile bullring as he looked very strong in the 12-lap race. Racing to the win, Carrick transferred into the feature event, and got him qualifying time back which lined him up ninth on the starting grid.
As the race came to life, Carrick would fall back in the early goings of the 25-lapper as he found himself as far back as the 13th spot. Not getting discouraged with his start, Carrick would search around the slick surface as he started to work his way forward.
Getting back into the Top-10, timely cautions led to double-file restarts which helped Carrick get back towards the front.
Continuing to grind on the bullring, Carrick would find himself in a close-knit battle for position inside the Top-Five late in the race. Challenging for the fifth position in the closing laps, Carrick ended his night with a sixth place finish.
“We fell back early in the ‘A’, but our car was pretty good and it allowed us to make up the lost ground,” Carrick noted.
