Sitting idle since January’s Tulsa Shootout, Blake Carrick got his 2019 outdoor season off and running on Saturday in Stockton, CA where he admittedly had some rust to shake off before gremlins sidelined him with just under 10-laps remaining in the race.
“We had really good speed, I just was a little rusty and made mistakes in the heat and in the feature,” Blake Carrick said. “Once I got going, I felt pretty good until we had some issues.”
A two-heat format was utilized Saturday afternoon in Stockton, CA, and Carrick would finish fifth in his opening heat race, before tallying a fourth place finish in his second and final heat.
With the points shaking out, the younger of the two Carrick brothers would grid the field from the 10th starting spot for the 30-lap feature event on a slick Stockton Dirt Track surface.
Having issues in turn one on the race’s third lap, Carrick would fall off the racing surface as the yellow flag flew. Able to restart from the tail end of the field, Carrick would settle in and began working his way forward through the Top-10.
As the race got into an extended green flag run, the second year sprint car driver would near the Top-5 as he got into sixth only to be forced into the pit area on the 21st lap with mechanical issues, thus ending his night.
“Aside from the mistakes it was a good night, and it was good to get back to racing,” Blake Carrick added. “Thanks to everyone who works so hard for me and makes all of this possible.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, and Arai for their continued support
