PETERSEN MEDIA: A two-race weekend in Chico, CA would see Blake Carrick pick up a 9th place finish during the Brownell Memorial on Friday night before tallying another sixth-place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour during the Tarter Memorial on Saturday night.
“We had decent speed all weekend and I have to thank our guys for their hard work,” Blake Carrick said. “Friday night I got sick before the feature, and really didn’t feel well at all and just did what I could. Saturday night we got rolling the in ‘A’, but a couple of hay makers from some other drivers knocked us out of the Top-5 late, and we ended up sixth.”
A overflowing pit area in Chico, CA saw 61 cars check in during both nights of action, and Carrick would get his weekend off to a quick start as he earned quick time honors in his qualifying group on Friday night.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would pick up a third-place finish aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B which would move him into the redraw as well as the 25-lap feature event.
Pulling the six in his redraw group, Carrick would find himself in the 12th starting spot for the feature. As he waited for the night to move along, Carrick would rapidly start to feel under the weather, but opted to still give it a go in the feature.
Able to work his way into the Top-5 after a wild opening couple of laps in the ‘A’, Carrick would maintain his spot in the fifth as he tried to hang on as he continued to not feel well in the feature.
Getting up to fourth by the race’s halfway point, Carrick would slip back a few positions in the second half of the race as he capped the night with a ninth-place finish.
Back in action on Saturday night and feeling much better, Carrick would get his night off to another strong start as he timed in second quickest in his qualifying group.
Picking up a second-place finish in heat race action, Carrick would move into the Dash where his fourth-place finish in Dash two would put him eighth on the starting grid for the 35-lap feature event.
On the Silver Dollar Speedway bullring, Carrick would jump up into the sixth position in the race’s early stages.
A double file restarts just prior to the halfway point would not go in Blake’s favor as the youngster would get shuffled back to the 12th position.
Settling back in, Carrick would get his elbows up as he went back to work and was able to fight his way back into the Top-5 by the 15th lap.
Continuing to work his way forward, Carrick would find himself battling for a podium spot and would briefly take over the third position.
In the closing stages of the race, patience from others would wear thin, and a couple of close quarters moves would see Carrick slip back to finish sixth.
“We were good enough to be inside the Top-5 on Saturday and possibly on the podium, but the last few laps got a little wild,” Carrick said. “Looking forward to two more nights of racing this weekend.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
