PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of his Forni Classic triumph, Blake Carrick stayed hot as he rolled into Marysville Raceway on Wednesday night and picked up a second place finish.
“We had a really good run on Wednesday night,” Blake Carrick said. “We actually used a restart to get by Becker and take the lead, but unfortunately a yellow came back out, and Becker had a pretty good idea of what I was trying to do.”
Returning to a venue where he has had success at in 2020, Carrick continued the trend as he got the night started by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil machine timed in 2nd quickest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA pilot would finish third behind Andy Forsberg and Brad Bumgarner, but it was still good enough to get him into the nightly redraw where the 2 pill put him on the front row of the 25-lap feature.
When the race went green, Carrick settled into the third position as he chased after the early leader Michael Ing and Wyllie veteran, Sean Becker.
Continuing to hold down the second position, Carrick would turn his fastest lap of the race at the race’s halfway point and would move into second on the 16th lap just before the caution flew on the 17th lap.
The ensuring restart saw Carrick use a full head of steam to drive by Becker on the exit of turn two, but the cautions lights would flicker and his pass would be negated.
Trying again, Becker knew what Carrick was up to, and the youngster continued to hold down the second position and would hook up in a battle for position with older brother, Tanner, in the race’s waning laps.
Able to hold on to the runner up spot, Carrick continued his streak of strong finishes as he know looks forward to two more nights of action this week.
“Thank to all the guys who continue to give us fast cars,” Carrick said. “Looking forward to a two race weekend after having the weekend off.”
Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
