Late Incident Relegates Blake Carrick to 13th Place Finish at Ocean Speedway

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

PETERSEN MEDIA: Having a good night going at Ocean Speedway on Saturday night during the Johnny Key Classic, a late incident would leave Blake Carrick with nowhere to go and relegated him to a 13th place finish.

“We had a really good night going,” Blake Carrick said. “Unfortunately on a late restart, a car got out of shape in front of me and I had nowhere to go. It cost us several spots we ended up finishing 13th.”

A total of 48 cars checked in for the long-standing event, and Carrick got off to a very strong start as he timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38B entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials.

Gridding the field from the fourth starting position in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver would slip back to finish fifth, which forced him into one of the night’s twin ‘B’ Main events.

Picking up the win during his semi, Carrick would get his qualiyifng time back behind the Dash cars and rolled off the starting grid from the 10th position for the 35-lap feature event.

With the surface turning extremely slick for the feature event, Carrick would actually fall outside of the Top-10 in the early goings before settling into a groove and working his way back forward.

Working back into the Top-10 and up to the seventh position, rubber would start to go down on the track. Continuing to run in the seventh position, Carrick’s night would get shaken up during a late restart.

With a car getting out of shape in front of him, Carrick would be in the wrong place at the wrong time and it would actually cost him several positions as he fell back to finish 13th.

“It was a bummer to lose a Top-10 like that because we were better than a 13th place car,” Carrick said. “Fun night, and thank you to all the people who work this car and make this all possible.”

Blake Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support

ON TAP: Blake Carrick is scheduled to return to action on October 30th in Hanford, CA for the Tom Tarlton Classic.
